When we bought our house in Toronto, we knew it would need a pretty big renovation. Having a 8-month-old at the time, we knew that once we moved in, there would be no major renovations happening. So we took the opportunity to renovate beforehand while we lived with my in-laws. While we did this renovation, we also did renos for our main bathroom, nursery, guest room, and phase 1 of our primary bedroom closet .

This whole floor is quite small, so my full mission for this reno was to maximize functionality and use the space creatively to make it work for my family. My vision for this kitchen was turning the peninsula into an island so we could have additional seating off the back, cover this awful bulkhead and pillar that contained the water supply up and downstairs, and have the full space feel more modern and like us!

First step of course was demo. There’s nothing like smashing your own kitchen to smithereens!

Next, I had to get all of the plumbing and venting moved to accommodate the new position of the sink and dishwasher and the venting through the floor instead of along a bulkhead.

Once this was done, the flooring went in. I dreamed of this flooring for years when I thought about my dream home. This was one of the pricier investments for the home, and one that we had to wait for for a while due to manufacturing delays during the pandemic.

We ordered 3” x 15” White Oak Herringbone with a natural stain finish.

Once the flooring was in, it was time to install the kitchen cabinets and beautiful quartz stone for both our waterfall countertops as well as our backsplash.
